Spring Jewelry Trends March 16, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — silverymoonjewelry @ 2:36 pm

In looking through all the fashion magazines we noticed 4 important color stories. The first one and you could have probably guessed this one was Black/White.  This one just never seems to go out of style. The second is coral/yellow. These colors always remind me of spring. The third one that was predominate was green/blue. Turquoise is back and when matched with a green stone like Amonzonite the two together are stunning and fresh.  Last but definitely not least of all is the Red/White/Navy story.  This one appears to be very versatile with either all three colors or just two mixed together. This look always makes me think of cute nautical designs.

Pearls are also not to be forgotten. Still making a big splash into spring they will be seen worn in long strands or as a choker. The most popular color is ivory but don’t count out popular colors like peach, bronze, gold, champagne, black or gray.

Other trends we’ve seen are pieces made mixed metals, seed beads, painted or printed shells, and chunky wooden beads. Anything vintage is still a hit along with whimsical jewelry.

The main thing is that there is sure to be something for everyone. Almost anything goes this spring. What more can a girl ask for?

Jewelry Tips March 16, 2009

 Jewelry Tip #1
Keeping a piece of chalk in your jewelry box will help keep your sterling silver tarnish free. The chalk will naturally absorb chemical residues and moisture in the air. This also works great on your sterling silverware.

Jewelry Tip #2

To untangle knots from your necklaces, use one of these two great methods. One way is to use a few drops of olive oil on the knot. Then gently roll it around between your thumb and your finger to loosen the knot slightly. At that point using a pin you can work the knot the rest of the way loose. Another great way is to put your necklace in a zip top bag with some baby powder or corn starch. Shake the bag for a few minutes to loosen the knot.

The best method of all is prevention. Hang your necklaces individually on separate hooks, coil necklaces in tidy circles each in a different jewelry box compartment or try threading necklaces separately through a straw before putting in a drawer. This last idea also works great when traveling.

History of the Claddagh Ring March 16, 2009

claddagh ringThe most popular story of how the Claddagh ring came about is of Richard Joyce. Richard was sold into slavery with the Moors by Algerian pirates. While he was a slave he worked with a Moorish goldsmith who taught Richard his craft. In 1689 at the request of King William III Richard was freed. Despite attempts from his teacher, he even offered his daughter’s hand in marriage, Richard went home to Ireland. It is said that once Richard returned he created the first Claddagh jewelry. The earliest rings found bear his manufacturing mark RI.

The popularity of the Claddaugh ring still runs strong. Partly because it’s motto “Let love and friendship reign” is timeless. Each part of the ring has meaning, the hands signify friendship and togetherness, the heart love, and the crown loyalty. Even how you wear the ring is sigficiant.  If a person wears the ring on their right hand with the heart facing outwards it means that their heart has not been given. If a person wears it on their right hand with the crown facing out it means that love is being considered. Worn on the left hand with the heart facing in means that the wearer has found love and shall never be parted.
